Silvio De Gracia was born in Junín, Buenos Aires, Argentina. He is writer, visual artist, performer, theoretical and independent curator. He works in performance, video, public art, installation, mail art and visual poetry.
His theory production includes articles and essays that have been published in specialized magazines, in different websites and books. He has presented his performances, conferences and projects of public art in Canada, Italy, Serbia, United Kingdom, Greece, Portugal, Argentina, Bolivia, Uruguay, Cuba, Colombia and Chile. He’s one of the most active performance artist from Argentina; organizer, theoretical and researcher on performance art. He has been co-curator of the First International Biennial of Performance DEFORMES, in Santiago, Chile (2006) and “Performance Presente Futuro”, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2008).
He has realized Performance Workshop with the Guatemalan artist Regina José Galindo. He is member of international staff of magazine Inter art actuel, a publication from Canada, specialized in performance and action art.
As video artist, he has exhibited his work in important shows and festivals in Mexico, France, Spain, Argentina, USA, Cuba, Russia, Belgium, Italy, Serbia, Romania, Estonia, Japan, Turkey, Switzerland, Portugal, Ukraine, Germany, Bulgaria, Latvia, UK and India.
As an independent curator, he has organized several international projects in Argentina: PLAY – International Video Art Festival (2004/2006); INTERFERENCIAS – International Action Art Encounter (2005/2007); man in transit International Video & Performance Festival (2008) and Transvideoplay Festival (2010).
Founder of HOTEL DaDA Action Art Group and director of VIDEOPLAY Project, a curatorial instance of interchange with festivals and events devoted to the diffusion of video art and action art.
He was especial guest in the XI Havana Biennial, Cuba (2012); 3rd Thessaloniki Biennale, Greece (2011) and X Havana Biennial, Cuba (2009).
